Vimy Day event

Despite the rain our Vimy event attracted many visitors. It was great seeing so many people braving the rains and walking into the trench, pinning Poppies on our Vimy memorial wall.

We had Cary Price in our hospital train talking about the medical aspects,  dangers and challenges faced at the front providing help to wounded soldiers.

John Goheen provided information on the war in the air next to the Sopwith Camel from the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley.

A great crew from the BC Vintage Truck Museum in Cloverdale provided detailed information about the 1914 FWD truck.

Inside the museum visitors could inspect the amazing replica of the Response ( on loan from the BC Veterans Commemorative Association)

Further into the museum Alan Fox shared his amazing knowledge on weapons with  visitors.

Not a seat was left empty when John Goheen started his  excellent lecture on the battle of  Vimy Ridge.

In the trenches we had Andrew Parrish and Mike Toddington talk about the war, trench warfare and the tunnel below the Vimy battlefield. Mike’s great uncle George Toddington was a miner in the war at was killed a the age of 23.

Visitors could enjoy food from Past Polo.

Tomorrow we will start the day with a lecture at 11.15 am, followed by the opening ceremony at 1pm.
