and

Centennial Trench Exhibit Opening

                                                      Saturday April 4th 1:00 to 3:00 pm

Ceremony Begins at 1:00 pm at the Port Moody Arts Centre

On Saturday April 4th the Port Moody Heritage Society will host the dedication and unveiling ceremony of the McKnight Heritage Plaque at the original Port Moody City Hall building. Immediately following, a brief ceremony will take place a short distance away at the Port Moody Station Museum to open the McKnight Centennial Trench Exhibit.

When the Great War began in 1914, many Port Moody residents rushed to enlist, and one man was Augustus McKnight who was our Scout Master and a city engineer. Augustus was commissioned as an officer with 6 Field Company, Canadian Engineers in North Vancouver. He eventually saw service on the Western Front where he was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper while he was supervising trench construction work.

The City of Port Moody graciously accepted the McKnight Heritage Plaque in 2014 and it is now mounted inside the original building where Augustus once worked. The Port Moody Station Museum is now home to a unique and authentic exhibit, a full size Great War trench. The plaque and trench both pay tribute McKnight and to all those that served in the First World War and especially to the 10 men from our city that lost their life during the war.

Our Travel Toggery Fashion Show with Ivan Sayers was a Success!

IMG_2447

On March 8, we had our  Travel Toggery 1900-2000: A History of Travelling Fashion Show and it was a Success! Ivan Sayers put on a very educational fashion Show! He not only described what the models were wearing, but gave a little history of what was happening in the world at that time!

We would like to thank Ivan Sayers, Paula Shore and all the models for putting on such a great show! We would also like to thank all the volunteers and sponsors!

Please take a look at our Fashion Show Album on Facebook to see the event! There will be more pictures added within the week! We will also be adding a biography of Ivan Sayers and some pictures during the fashion show within the week.
