Come join us at the Station Museum this Sunday to see the Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club (GVGRC). The display includes working model steam engines and a model Thomas the Train display.  Joining the GVRC at the museum will be the Morse Telegraph Society as they teach visitors all about the telegraph and the basics of Morse Code.  Throughout the Canada Day weekend visitors can enjoy our Family Days in conjunction with our feature exhibit “Chinese Legacies”.  Activities include lantern making, spike driving, a scavenger hunt and two musicians.  On July 1st, from 11am to 1pm, Joanna Wang will be playing the Erhu, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument , and from 1pm to 3pm Larry Yan will be playing a series of traditional Chinese flutes.  For more information on parking and costs visit our “What’s On” page.  See you on the weekend!

Summer is a great time to visit the Station Museum. For kids participating in out-of-school care or pre-school programs, we have exciting activities. For only $3 per child, groups can have fun while experiencing our railway past. Our 90 minute Riding the Rails program for ages 5-12 is an active way for kids to learn about the bygone days of the rail travel. For children ages 3-5, our 75 minute Box Car Kids is a hands-on way to learn about the world of trains.

This summer, visitors can also experience the life of the Chinese railway worker in the 1880s with our feature exhibit Chinese Legacies.

Both programs are great for larger active groups. We can accommodate up to 28 children at one time in Box Car Kids and up to 60 children in Riding the Rails. Programs can be booked Monday to Friday in the morning or afternoon. We are flexible to fit your schedule.

While you’re here, check out Rocky Point Park. Only a 3 minute walk away, it has picnic tables, a playground, a water park and a great view of the water!

It’s that time of year again, where we reflect on everything that has happened in the past year and look into the future of the Port Moody Heritage Society and the Port Moody Station Museum.  The meeting will be taking place at 7:00pm, June 18th at the Port Moody Station Museum(2734 Murray St., Port Moody).  All heritage society members are invited to attend and add their input into the general discussion as well as vote for the new board of directors for the 2012/2013 year.

The annual general meeting is extremely important in solidifying our plans for the future and continuing with our goal of preserving and sharing the heritage of Port Moody.  The society is fuelled by the commitment of our members and volunteers and we are always looking for more people to help in our goals.  If you are interested, visit the membership page or email us at info@portmoodymuseum.org and come out June 18th to learn more about this amazing organization.
