Once again we have received support from the Federal Government to fund additional staff positions in the summer. This year we have received funding for one position from Young Canada Works and three positions from Service Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs. Funding for these positions is aimed at helping students get career experience and learn about museum work. These grants cover about 75% of the staff costs.
Every summer, student assistants help us maintain our artifact collection, deliver educational programs, put up new displays and greet visitors. Some of this summer’s projects include researching and writing sections of our history book, cataloging our newspaper collection, setting up our CPR display, and completing our education programs for ELSA students.
Our summer students for 2011 are:
Exhibits Assistant: Devan Scott (returning)
Collections Assistant: Bronwen Bird
Programs Assistant: Laurel Dougans
Museum Assistant: Matthew Hayes
Our Assistants will be with us full time until the end of August and it is our hope that they will continue to work at the Museum on weekends during next fall, winter and spring. We hope that you have a chance to come by and say hello to our new team next time you are here.
